‘No agreement for third party to test fertilizer samples’

Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture Professor Udith K. Jayasinghe said yesterday (15) that no agreement has been reached up to now, to get a third party to test the samples of the stock of Chinese organic fertilizer.

He said that the Ministry of Agriculture is not prepared to make any payment at all in respect of the controversial stock of organic fertilizer in the Chinese ship.

He emphasized the fact that there is no need to make any payment at all for the fertilizer since the Department of Agriculture did not obtain any fertilizer from the Chinese ship.

The Director of Qingdao Seawin Biotech Group Co.Ltd., a Chinese Organic Fertilizer Company had said recently that if a sum of US Dollars 41.6 million is paid as compensation they are ready to turn back the ship carrying the stock of organic fertilizer and that he had informed the Ministry of Agriculture in writing of the relevant conditions. However, the Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture has said that he did not receive any such written notification.
