'I've brought 1 lakh free electricity bills from Delhi, let Channi show 1,000 from Punjab'

Mohali:

Armed with one lakh ‘zero electricity bills’ from Delhi, AAP national convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday threw an open challenge to Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi asking him to come up with just 1,000.

“In Delhi, we have provided free electricity. Almost 70-75 per cent people are getting free electricity. They get zero electricity bills and electricity is provided 24 hours… In September I came here and said that we will do the same in Punjab. I said that we will provide 300 units free electricity. If that will happen, then 80 per cent people in Punjab will get free electricity,” Kejriwal said here months ahead of the Assembly election in Punjab.

“Soon after I left, Channi after two days said that electricity is free in Punjab… When I was coming here, (I saw) hoarding everywhere stating ‘free electricity’. I want to ask you — how many of you got free electricity? I want to ask the people of Punjab, how many of you got free electricity? So, did Channi lie? Today, I have brought proof from Delhi… I have brought electricity bills of 1 lakh people in Delhi. Channi can come and see it. Last month, 35 lakh people received zero electricity bill last month in Delhi,” he added.

Kejriwal went on to add, “I have brought one lakh electricity bills from Delhi. Today, I challenge Channi from this stage, you show 1,000 electricity bills from Punjab… You (Channi) have put up fake hoarding everywhere… Today, I want to tell the people of Punjab that if you want expensive electricity bills, then vote for Congress and if you want zero electricity bills, then vote for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).”

Speaking on the occasion, Kejriwal further promised that AAP’s CM candidate will be from Punjab.

Assembly polls are slated to be held in Punjab early next year.
