Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage pledged to purchase organic paddy at Rs.100 per kilo.
The government is preparing to purchase organic paddy from paddy farmers at Rs. 100 per kilo, said Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
He points out that traders are already tempted to buy Nadu paddy at Rs. 80 per kilo, Samba paddy at Rs. 100 per kilo and Kiri Samba paddy at Rs. 125 per kilo.
“These days farmers engage in protests everywhere. But I believe that those protests are not of real farmers. The puppets of the Minister of Agriculture are made and burnt. The Minister of Agriculture is attacked. But farmers forget that for the first time in history they got Rs. 80 per kilo of paddy during my tenure.” said the Minister.
The Minister urged the farmers not to be afraid since the government is committed to provide fertilizer and also to buy the produce.
