Final decision on Muthurajawela in two weeks - Environment Minister

Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that the final decision regarding the Muthurajawela Wet Sanctuary will be announced within the next two weeks.
 
The final decision on the Muthurajawela Wetland Sanctuary will be announced within the next two weeks, Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.
 
The Minister of Environment was responding to a question raised by journalists at a program held at the SLFP Headquarters at Darley Road, Colombo on Thursday (11). During the last two days, two discussions were held in Parliament under my patronage regarding the Muthurajawela Wet Sanctuary.
 
A number of relevant factions participated in it. In particular, these discussions were held at the ruling party MPs request. There is no truth in the claims made by some that about 6,000 hectares will be taken over for this purpose, he said
 
He said that the  acquisition of 6,000 hectares will not be done in any way. “Only essential lands will be acquired for the Muthurajawela Wet Sanctuary.
 
There will be no land grabbing or evictions. As a government we will not allow any harassment or injustice to the people. Therefore, we willdefinitely announce the final decision in this regard within the next two weeks, he said
 
The Minister also said that all steps will be taken to maintain the Muthurajawela Wet Sanctuary as a sensitive ecological area to contribute to future generations.
