Brunei lifts travel ban on six countries from today

Essential travel entry from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia will be open for consideration beginning on November 1, said Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong at the daily press conference yesterday.

The decision was made by the COVID-19 Steering Committee with the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and was based on risk assessment by the Ministry of Health.

The COVID-19 Steering Committee defined essential travellers as holders of a valid work pass or had been issued a foreign worker license by the Labour Department, as well as holders of Business and Professional Visit Visas supported by a ministry or authority.

The minister said the consideration includes entry and exit-country travel approvals for foreign nationals travelling to and from five countries of the Indian subcontinent, entry of all foreign nationals departing from or through any airport in the Indian Subcontinent; travel from Brunei Darussalam to the Indian subcontinent as well as entry travel approval for foreign nationals departing from any airport in Indonesia via direct or transit flights.

The minister said foreign nationals from the six countries who have been granted pre-approval to enter Brunei Darussalam and were then suspended due to previous announcements are required to re-submit their entry travel applications. Courtesy Borneo Bulletin
