UP CM's late night Twitter overdrive: Desperation or Outreach

New Delhi: From criticising the Opposition for being “anti-Hindu” to lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recalling several past incidents of violence, and talking about Ayodhya and Ramayan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath went on a Twitter spree on late Friday night as did 19 tweets in a matter of one hour and 16 minutes in an unprecedented public outreach months ahead of the 2022 Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh.

Starting at 10 pm, Adityanath in the beginning talked about the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. “Only by being united, will we be able to develop, be safe and get respect. This work is happening in the country under the leadership of BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he wrote.

Soon after, the Chief Minister criticised the Congress and wrote, “In 1952, Congress had sown the root of terrorism. But Union Home Minister Amit Shah ended Article 370 under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.”

He even criticised the Samajwadi Party and said that when the party was in power, it revived the memories of terrorists in the middle of its tenure, while mentioning how temples were attacked. “During Samajwadi Party’s tenure, cases of terrorists were withdrawn. False cases were filed against Hindus. Ram Bhakts were fired upon and terrorists were worshipped. Isn’t this the truth?” he wrote.

Post that, Adityanath recalled the 2005 Mau riots and said that people have not forgotten it till date. He even recalled how in 2007, “Ajit Rai was brutally murdered in college in Azamgarh just because he had spoken about ‘Vande Mataram’.” He said that in independent India, if any government, organization or institution prohibits ‘Vande Mataram’, it should be thrown out.

In what seemed like a desperate attempt ahead of the Assembly polls, Adityanath said that there is need to make people aware why BJP should remain in power in 2022.

“If BJP government is in the state, no one will dare to instigate riots, no anti-social element can dare so… No mafia will dare to capture the property of the poor,  if they dare, a bulldozer will run,” he wrote.

“When we came to power, we waived off farm loans, while the Samajwadi Party withdrew cases against terrorists who attacked Ram Janmabhoomi,” he added.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has taken special care of transparency in job procedures in the state and that’s the reason why 4.5 lakh appointments have been done in last 4.5 years.

“With technology, coordination and better use of resources in Uttar Pradesh, our farmers alone have the capacity to feed the whole world,” Adityanath wrote. He also highlighted that there was no procurement policy in the state before 2017 when BJP came to power.

After that, Adityanath started talking about the Ram Temple and wrote that its construction in Ayodhya is in progress.

In the end at around 11:16 pm, Yogi Adityanath, while highlighting a phrase of Maharishi Valmiki from the epic Ramayana, wrote “There is only one religion, if there is any real form of religion, then it is ‘Shri Ram’.”

In the seven hours preceding this spate of tweets, Yogi Adityanath had shot off just three tweets. Uttar Pradesh is slated to go for polls early next year.
