Teachers should be more considerate – Ven. Dr. Dhammananda Thera

Lekakadhikari of the Asgiriya Chapter, Most Ven. Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thera yesterday said that what teachers should do at this moment is to provide education for children and while doing that, try to win their demands.

The Ven. Thera said that children who have not been under the control of a teacher are facing a mental crisis due to schools being closed for a long period of time and not only that, not engaging in online studies either.

The Thera said that there is a possibility that   the future generation could travel on a wrong path, if this trend continues.

Venerable Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thera added that teachers should not be in a defeated state of mind, just because they engaged in their struggles for approximately one hundred days and were unable to gain victory in their battle by obtaining a sustainable solution to the teachers’ problems and requested that the overall community of teachers should make some sacrifice on behalf of the tomorrows of the children.

Most Ven. Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thera said that in the face of the prevailing pandemic, various problems have arisen and, in the meantime, the Government and the Prime Minister are attempting to provide a beneficial solution and as a result it is important for teachers to focus on that.

Most Ven. Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thera also said that there is no other profession that is as honourable as the teaching profession and that teachers should realize that they determine the existence of the future of the country and it is best to keep this in mind while struggling to win their demands.

Most Ven. Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thera said that after the parents, children often follow their teachers, so therefore, they should set an example to the children.

If, as teachers, they set a wrong example to society, harmful results will have to be suffered in the future, the Nayake Thera said and also mentioned that by trying to use influence and launching protests in this manner to win their demands, teachers are setting a wrong example to children.

Venerable Dhammananda Thera said further that there is nothing wrong in battling it out to win demands but that a suitable time for that has to be realized which is important and while the country is facing a crisis in every sector we have to ask ourselves whether creating new crises is the proper thing to do.
