T20 WC: Defending West Indies In The Face-Off With England

Dubai:

It has been five and half years since the most memorable T20 was played between West Indies and England in the final of the T20 WC in 2016. West Indies won the trophy, and now it is fitting that the two will start their main campaign in the tournament facing each other.  “It was one of the most incredible sporting events that you’ll ever watch,” Eoin Morgan said earlier this week, talking about the T20 WC final of 2016.

England will have faith in its opening duo Jason Roy and Jos Buttler to deliver the goods with the bat, while pacer Mark Wood will aim to replicate his form from the warm-up games. On the other hand, the West Indies will hope to find more consistency during the Super 12 stage, having lost the two warm games against Pakistan and Afghanistan, respectively.

The two teams have had 18 games against each other, out of which 11 games were marked in favor of West Indies while the english counterpart won only 7.

England captain Eoin Morgan, ahead of the game, said, “The last two years in T20 International cricket have been probably the most consistent, certainly in my period as captain. We’ve shown that we can get 200 or maybe more, and also play in the dogfight game – the 130 or 140 game. The side who adapts to all three venues the best throughout this tournament will go on and on win.”

Kieron Pollard is not worried about West Indies’ warm-up performances as he said ahead of the match “The boys are upbeat. We accept that the two warm-up games did not go as well as how we would have wanted, in terms of scoring the amount of runs or the intent that we are looking for. But we get a sense the guys are up for it, the guys are ready to start this tournament.”
