Keen contest on the cards in Royal-Thomian Big Match

A keen contest is set to unfold when traditional rivals Royal College and S. Thomas’ College clash in the 142nd Battle of the Blues Inter-School Big Match at the SSC Grounds in Maitland Place commencing today.

After a series of postponements, this three-day fixture, played behind closed doors is now set to produce some enthralling cricket with both teams very much confident of making a lasting impact.

Both Royal and S. Thomas’ have won 35 matches each in the Big Match series with the rest ending in draws.

The match is played for the D. S. Senanayake Memorial Shield and at present it sits among the silverware at S. Thomas’ after they won the encounter in 2020 under the captaincy of Thevin Eriyagama.

Meanwhile, Royal last won the contest in 2016 with Geeshat Panditharatne as the Captain.

S. Thomas’: Shalin de Mel (Captain) Ryan Fernando (Vice-Captain) Yasiru Rodrigo, G. Caniston, Anuk Palihawadena, Romesh Mendis, Nathan Caldera, Thenuka Liyanage, Mahith Perera, Rajindu Tilakaratne and Senesh Hettiarachchi.
