Inter-provincial travel restrictions not lifted

Inter-provincial travel restrictions would not be lifted, Army Commander, General Shavendra Silva told the media yesterday that close to 1,000 new cases were still reported daily and that letting the guard down would lead to a resurgence in cases once again.

The Ministry of Health yesterday issued a set of guidelines that people should follow this month. There are two sets of guidelines; one that is valid from October 01 to 15 and the other from October 16 to 31.

It states that non-essential travel is not permitted between 10 pm and 4 am. Public and shared transport should keep shutters down and passengers in buses and trains are limited to the number of seats.

All establishments must operate with a minimal staff, the Ministry said. Work from Home practices must be encouraged.

All public gatherings are banned until further notice. Economic Centres are only open for wholesale trade. However weekly fairs and open markets are open under supervision of local authorities and MOH offices.

Restaurants have been encouraged to have outdoor dining. Gyms can only be operated with five persons at a time until 15 October, afterwards they can operate at 30% capacity. Sports activities too are not allowed till 15 October. Walkways and beaches are open to the public.

Only 10 people are allowed for weddings and funerals till 15 October. Religious leaders have been advised not to gather devotees into their establishments.
