Expedite work on new Kollupitiya shopping complex - PM

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday instructed officials to expedite work on the new shopping complex in Kollupitiya.

Addressing Colombo Municipal Council party leaders meeting conducted at Temple Trees on Tuesday, Prime Minister Rajapaksa, advised that all council members and officials act diligently towards expediting the construction of the new shopping complex project in Kollupitiya, thereby encouraging investors.

It is proposed to construct a new shopping complex at the present Kollupitiya market premises. The proposal of the project was unveiled to the Prime Minister on March 12 this year.

The project will be jointly implemented by the Urban Development Authority, the Colombo Municipal Council and a selected investor.

The Prime Minister stressed that project implementation issues should be discussed and resolved with the consent of MPs and officials and that investors should be encouraged.

He further emphasized that new stalls should be reserved for all those who are currently having shops at the present shopping complex premises.

Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake, Deputy Mayor Mohammed Iqbal, Opposition Leader M.H.Manzil and Colombo Municipal Councillors, Secretary to the Prime Minister Gamini Senarath and UDA Chairman Major General (Rtd) Udaya Nanayakkara were present.
