Don’t allow ship carrying fertilizer into Port - JVP

JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake called on the Government not to reverse the decision taken by the Port and Agriculture officials not to allow a ship carrying a consignment of organic fertilizer to enter the Colombo Port.

He was addressing a press conference at the JVP Headquarters on Saturday.

MP Dissanayake pointed out that the entire bio-diversity of the country could be affected if harmful microorganisms enter the country. “The forceful interventions from the Qingdao Seawin Biotech Group Co. Ltd and the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka in this regard must be stopped. The Chinese Company cannot decide on what we should allow into our country. Those decisions must be made by our authorities and the foreign countries must respect such decisions,” he stressed.

“The Harbour Master and the Agriculture Director General have given explicit orders in this regard and we appreciate their decisions.

The attempt by the Chinese vessel to enter into the Colombo Port disregarding orders by local authorities must be thwarted,” he added.
