At least two ISIS militants have been arrested in the Taliban operation. Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in mid-August, ISIS militants have carried out several attacks targeting Taliban members.

The Taliban and ISIS are arch enemies of each other. Recent attacks have raised fears of widespread conflict amid the long-running rivalry. In late August, an ISIS suicide bomber targeted US evacuation efforts outside Kabul’s international airport. The deadly attack killed 169 Afghan and 13 US Marine commandos.

Taliban spokesman Bilal Karimi said Friday’s raid took place in the town of Charikar in Parwan province. The spokesman did not elaborate. His statement could not be independently confirmed. Karimi said that after the raid, the Taliban arrested two members of the ISIS, who were involved in roadside bombings.
