Valuable assets sold to foreign companies - JVP

The government must hold the ownership and management of the energy sector as it plays a pivotal role in national security, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.

Dissanayake accused the government of selling out the Kerawalapitiya power plant to an American company without following the due tender process.

He said that no one can raise a voice against this deal due to the pandemic situation in the country. Dissanayake was addressing the media at the party headquarters in Battaramulla yesterday.

He said Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa has got the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers for this agreement, which is not a clean deal at all. “In fact, the government should reveal to the country as to why it sold out this invaluable national resource to a foreign company,” he stressed.

“The one who bears the ownership of the energy in our country will decide the country’s future journey”. Dissanayake also said that the stakeholders and the members of the government are fighting each other only for their personal benefits, but they all are one group when disasters of this nature occur.
