Those against US energy deal to take up issue with Prez

By Ifham Nizam

The Ministries of Finance and Energy would reveal their stance on US energy firm, New Fortress Energy’s stake in the Yugadhanavi Power Plant, in Parliament, former Energy Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

Alahapperuma, who is now  the Media Minister, said that his candid opinion was that when it came to the country’s energy sector the supply of LNG should not be controlled by a foreign entity.

“When I was the Energy minister it was decided to call for tenders for the LNG plant,” he said.

Alahapperuma however assured that the government had not taken any decision to sell off national assets.

The Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers’ Union (CEBEU), politicians representing government and opposition, opposed to the deal are planning to take up the matter with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today and tomorrow.
