Son arrested over businessman's death

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigating the death of famous businessman Gulam Hussain on Saturday arrested his youngest son on suspicion.

The businessman was found dead at his office four years ago.

Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage ordered the remand of the suspect till September 24 when he was produced before the court by the CID officer today.

The CID started investigation into his death based on a complaint received by the Police in 2018.

Hussain’s remains were exhumed and referred to a special panel of experts in 2019 and the forensic report revealed a fracture in his jaw bone and spinal cord.

Experts concluded that he was clubbed to death with a blunt tool.

After a prolonged investigation, the businessman’s youngest son was arrested in connection with the murder.
