Prevailing situation not appropriate to re-open schools

The prevailing atmosphere is not conducive to reopen schools, Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said.

Speaking to the media, he said that it is the responsibility of the educational authorities to create an atmosphere conducive to reopen schools and then convince the health authorities on it.

“The health authorities have not yet given the green light to reopen schools as the prevailing situation is not safe for that. The health authorities are unable to create those conditions in schools. What we can do is to control the spread of COVID-19 among children. We must do what we can to prevent the spread of the Virus from students to those at their homes. Then we can proceed to reopen schools,” he said.
