PM Modi meets Joe Biden Live Updates: World watches as India, US conduct bilateral dialogue

A bilateral meeting between India’s PM Modi and US President Joe Biden has begun at the Oval Office. This meeting comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address at the QUAD Summit.

The two leaders have spoken on the phone several times since Joe Biden became US president, but this is the first time the two leaders have been meeting face to face to discuss various issues. 

This meeting has captured the attention of the whole world. Experts say that through this meeting, PM Modi will try to create the same chemistry with US President Joe Biden as he did with Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

– PM Narendra Modi leaves the White House after a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden. He will attend the first in-person QUAD conference.

– “After taking office, you have taken a unique initiative in every field, be it the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change or the QUAD. This initiative will have a huge impact in the days to come. I am confident that even in today’s conversation we can discuss all these issues in detail. Today we will have a meaningful discussion on how we can walk together, what we can do well for the world,” PM Modi told US President Joe Biden.

–  “India and US together can overcome the biggest challenges. The traditions and democracy of both countries are a precedent for the world. Joe Biden’s vision is inspiring for us. Today there are 4 million Indians living in the USA who are helping to make the US stronger. We need to further enhance people-to-people contacts between the two countries,” PM

the meeting.

– “I am seeing a big change in India-US relations. I see such a transformation when we are dedicated to democratic traditions and values. Trade between India and the United States (US) has its own significance. We can also help each other a lot in the field of trade in this decade. There are a lot of things that the USA has that India needs. India has a lot of things that the USA can use,”

PM Modi said.

–  “Every issue mentioned by President Joe Biden is important for India-US friendship. His efforts on the coronavirus pandemic, the QUAD initiative and his efforts to mitigate climate change are noteworthy,”

PM Modi said.

–  “Technology is becoming a driving force in the present times. We must use our talents for the greater good of the world and to take advantage of technology. President Joe Biden mentioned Gandhiji’s birthday. Gandhi ji had his important views about trusteeship. This concept will prove to be very important for our planet in the time to come,”

PM Modi said.

– “I can see that the seeds we will sow under your leadership in this decade will be very transformative for India-US as well as democracies all over the world,” PM Modi tells Joe Biden.

–  “I can see that the seeds of expansion of Indo-US relations have been sown under Joe Biden’s leadership. Today’s bilateral summit is important. We are meeting at the beginning of the third decade of this century. Joe Biden’s leadership will certainly play a key role in shaping this decade,”

PM Modi said.

–  “I thank you for the warm welcome of me and my delegation. Even before that we had the opportunity to discuss. At that time, you had a vision for Indo-US bilateral relations. Today you are taking the initiative to implement your vision for strengthening Indo-US relations,”

PM Modi said.

– During the meeting, PM Modi said that the relations between India and the United States (US) are extremely strong. 

–  “Joe Biden’s vision for India and the USA is inspiring,” PM Modi said. 

– “I have known PM Modi for a long time. He is very happy to come to the White House. India-US relations will be further strengthened in the days to come,”

– The White House informed that PM Modi’s bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden has started.

These issues will be discussed

The meeting is expected to discuss a number of priority issues, including counterterrorism, the corona virus pandemic and the challenges of climate change, economic cooperation and Afghanistan, a senior US administration official said. 

“We will address the coronavirus pandemic crisis, a number of priority issues related to climate change,” the official told the media. 

“In this meeting, we will discuss issues related to technology, economic cooperation and trade, as well as Afghanistan,” he added.

During the meeting, the two leaders will review the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between the two countries. They will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between the two countries is anchored in “mutual trust, shared interests, goodwill and robust engagement of their citizens” and covers a wide gamut of areas including trade and defence.

The two countries also have strategic convergence on Indo-Pacific. The meeting is taking place in the backdrop of the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan and the issue is likely to figure in the discussions.

Since January, PM Modi and Biden have participated in three summits. Two of them were hosted by President Biden – the Quad virtual summit in March and the Climate Change Summit in April which was also held virtually.

PM Modi also virtually took part in the G7 Summit held at Cornwall in the UK in June this year.

The bilateral meeting between the Prime Minister and the US President will be followed by the first in-person QUAD leaders’ summit.

Pakistan slapped over terrorism

Earlier, PM Modi’s meeting with US Vice President Kamala Harris has been very encouraging in terms of bilateral relations. During the meeting, Kamala Harris mentioned Pakistan’s role in terrorism and called on it to take action against terrorist organizations. 

Indian Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Sringala said that US Vice President Kamala Harris had asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ask Pakistan to take action on terrorism so that terrorist organizations do not target India or the US.

US supports India’s concerns

Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Sringala said that the US agreed with the Prime Minister’s briefing on the facts of cross-border terrorism. US Vice President Kamala Harris also agrees with the fact that India has been a victim of terrorism for decades. She believes that Pakistan

needs to be curb

its support to terrorism.
