PM Modi embarks on US visit, Joe Biden meeting, QUAD, UNGA big things on agenda

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for a visit to the USA on Wednesday morning. This is the first visit of PM Modi to the global ‘sole super power’ since Joe Biden deposed Donald Trump to become US president.

PM Modi is scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. This was confirmed by Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Tuesday. Prime Minister Modi will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and senior officials.

The foreign secretary said the key elements of the program are bilateral meetings with the US leadership, participation in the QUAD leaders’ summit and addresses at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

He said that in this visit of PM Modi he has a meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House. This will be PM Modi’s first personal meeting with US President Joe Biden. India said development in Afghanistan, ways to prevent radicalization, extremism and cross-border terrorism and further expansion of the India-US global partnership will figure in the talks between the two leaders, India said.

In their bilateral meeting on September 24, US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will review the strong and multifaceted India-US bilateral relationship. They will also discuss how the Strategic Global Partnership can be enriched. Along with this, the two leaders will also discuss reforms in the multilateral system, including the United Nations Security Council.

To promote investment in India, PM Modi will hold a meeting with CEOs of some big US companies on September 23. This includes Apple CEO Tim Cook.

During his important visit to the US, PM Modi will attend the quadrangle structure leaders’ summit along with his US, Japanese and Australian counterparts in Washington on 24 September. The bilateral meeting with the US President is also scheduled for the same day.
