Patali questioned for three hours

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka was questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department for three hours today.

Ranawaka appeared before the CID this morning after summons had been issued by the CID over an on-going probe regarding the alleged misappropriation of State funds during his tenure as the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development. The former minister was accompanied by several SJB Parliamentarians.

Speaking to the Daily News regarding the summoning of MP Patali Champika by the CID, SJB MP Ranjith Maddumabandara said that at a time when there are many allegations being levelled against the Government, they are attempting to divert the attention of the public by summoning former ministers to the CID and trying to implicate them in various corruptions. “The duty of the Government should mainly be to bring those responsible for the Easter attacks to book. But instead they are trying to target and harass the opposition MPs in order to hide their own mistakes and blunders. I admit that we made a mistake of not ensuring proper punishment to those who actually robbed the country during the previous Rajapaksa regime. But, our ministers did not rob during the Yahapalana regime,” he said, adding that the Government is trying to divert the attention focused on their non-performance by launching a witch hunt against the SJB MPs.
