MRPs gazetted for sugar, rice

The Government on Thursday imposed Maximum Retail Prices (MRPs) for sugar and rice with immediate effect.

Accordingly, Maximum Retail Price of Keeri Samba is Rs. 125 per kilogram, White or Red Samba – Steamed or Boiled (excluding Suduru Samba) is Rs. 103 per kilogramme, White or Red Nadu – Steamed or

Boiled (excluding Mottaikarupan and Attakari) is Rs. 98 per kilogramme and White or Red Raw Rice is Rs. 95 per kilogramme.

The importer’s Maximum Wholesale Price of White Sugar should be Rs. 116 per kilogramme. The MRP of unpacketed White Sugar is Rs. 122 per kilogramme and MRP of packeted White Sugar is Rs. 125 per kilogramme.

The MRP of unpacketed Brown or Red Sugar is Rs. 125 per kilogramme and MRP of packeted Brown or Red Sugar is Rs. 128 per kilogramme. The CAA orders that no importer, supplier, producer, distributor, or trader shall sell, supply, expose, or offer for sale, display for sale

rice and sugar above the gazetted MRPs. The Orders under the CAA Act were issued by CAA Chairman Maj. General Shantha Dissanayake (Rtd) on instructions given by the President.

State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said that sugar and rice should be sold at Sathosa, Cooperatives, Super Markets and all other outlets at the MRPs.
