United National Party (UNP) Chairman Vajira Abeywardena said the government should jab the Pfizer vaccine to students in Grade Eight and above to begin schools thereafter. Speaking to the media yesterday he said countries around the world continue to provide education to children but school education in our country has been stagnant for over 16 months.
He said therefore, if the Pfizer vaccine is given now, especially to students in Grades 8,9,10,11,12, it will be possible to re-open schools as per health guidelines.
He said the government should take action to resolve the issue of teachers and principals’ salaries and bring them back to work to open schools.
