‘Epidemiology Unit sabotaging MoH vaccination drive’

The Epidemiology Unit is hindering vaccination drive of the health sector, Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) Secretary, Dr. Senal Fernando said.

“The Epidemiology Unit handles the vaccines and does not issue enough doses to us. Therefore, there is a shortage of vaccines at clinics run by the health sector. Often people have to be turned back and they take it out on the health workers.

The Epidemiology Unit has issued a large amount of vaccines to the army for their vaccination drive. The Army has been entrusted with the entire Pfizer vaccination process and selected people between the ages of 20 and 30 are vaccinated outside the vaccine strategy, Dr. Fernando said.

“This has greatly inconvenienced the Director General of Health Services and the Deputy Director of Public health. This is because the Health Secretary is partial to the two main doctors in charge of vaccines at the Epidemiology Unit.”
