Epic Lanka software engineer arrested

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday arrested a Software Engineer of Epic Lanka Technologies over the deletion of files from the eNMRA database on the Lanka Government Cloud. The 34-year-old suspect will be produced before the Court today.

The Police told the media that the Software Engineer was arrested after confirming that he had accessed the database and was responsible for the delete of files.

The CID is conducting investigations into the matter following a complaint lodged by the Head of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).

The CID earlier this month arrested the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the same private company over the incident and later he was granted bail.

It was revealed last July that some data in the eNMRA system had been deleted and several parties, including the Opposition, accused it of being a conspiracy.

The NMRA is the body that regulates the issuance of licenses to pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and pharmacies in the country.
