Eng vs Ind: India defeat England by 157 runs, take 2-1 lead in series

London:

After a dramatic fifth-day finish at the Oval, India ended its 50-year wait for a win at the venue with a 157-run victory against England on Monday. India now leads the five-match series by 2-1.

Chasing a mammoth target of 368, the hosts fell short despite making a strong start with a century opening partnership by Rory Burns (50) and Haseeb Hameed (63) as they were restricted by a disciplined and superb bowling attack.

Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, two wickets each, were the wreckers-in-chief in that afternoon session, cleaning up England’s middle-order with a fuss.Shardul Thakur got rid of rival skipper Joe Root (36).  At the end, it was Umesh Yadav’s three-for that cleaned up India’s tail and sealed a famous win for India.

With the massive 157-win over England, the Kohli-led side has taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. The convincing win over England is also India’s first triumph at the Oval after 50 years. The fifth and final Test is scheduled to start on September 10 in Manchester.
