Domestic aide’s death: Bathiudeen, others remanded till Sept 17

Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen, his wife and the father-in-law were further remanded until September 17 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya. The Magistrate made this order   when the case regarding the death of a 16-year-old girl who was employed at the MP’s Colombo residence as a domestic aide, was taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Meanwhile, the MPs brother-in-law and the broker who are related to the incident were released on bail. The broker was released on two sureties of Rs.300,000 each and the other one was released on two sureties of Rs.500,000 each. The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban on MP’s brother-in-law and ordered them to report appear in the police on the last Sunday every month.

Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Piries appearing on behalf of the prosecution stated that they received unofficial information that the suspect Rishad Bathiudeen had tried to influence the investigation officers and the aggrieved party.

DSG Dileepa Piries stated that an extensive investigation has been launched in this regard.
