Discussion held on re-opening of schools

A discussion on the re-opening of schools was held at the Ministry of Health yesterday (15) under the patronage of Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

Accordingly, it was decided at this meeting to take the policy decision regarding the commencement of schools under the Ministry of Education and to formulate the relevant health rules and regulations.

There are about 5,000 schools with less than 200 students in the school system of the country and it is expected to start such schools soon. Accordingly, the focus was on starting pre-schools and schools up to grade 6.

The Ministry of Education will decide on the dates for the commencement of such schools. Accordingly, the discussion focused on the commencement of schools within the next two to three weeks. Meanwhile, Minister Rambukwella said that school teachers and non-academic staff have been fully vaccinated and all those involved in school transport services who have not yet been vaccinated will be fully vaccinated as soon as possible.
