9/11 re-run in US days after Afghanistan withdrawal

Just days after completing a humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan, the US suffered a second 9/11 type incident which has revived painful memories of the spectacular terrorist from two decades ago.

With the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, there was an incident in Connecticut, USA, which reminded of 9/11.

An airplane collided with a building and crashed shortly after takeoff from a small Connecticut airport on Thursday morning, killing all four people on board, officials said.

The airplane crashed into a building in Farmington, Connecticut, in the northeastern United States, local police said on Thursday.

“We are responding to a plane crash into a building at 111 Hyde Rd. Media can stage at the intersection of New Britain Ave and Hyde Rd for now,” the Farmington Police Department said via Twitter. 

A video published by the NBC Connecticut news channel shows extensive fire coming from one section of the building.

The police have not said whether the airplane crash caused any casualties.

Farmington Police Department officer Tim McKenzie said the aircraft a small private airplane made by Learjet. McKenzie pointed out that the aircraft appeared to have crashed due to mechanical issues as per witnesses reports.

McKenzie also said the authorities do not have an official count of the number of passengers in the airplane and would not disclose whether anyone in the aircraft died. However, he noted there has been no need to take anyone to the hospital.

Tim McKenzie said the jet took off from Robertson Airport just before 10 a.m. and crashed into the building of Trumpf Inc., a construction company.

“It appears that there was some sort of failure during takeoff, which resulted in the accident,” he said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane, a Cessna Citation 560X, was headed for Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo, North Carolina. McKenzie said two pilots and two passengers were killed. Their names were not immediately released.

“The accident caused a fire inside the Trump building,”

Governor Ned Lamont said.
