Two vessels due here with oxygen from India

The Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Shakthi, which left the Trincomalee harbour on 17 August to obtain medical grade oxygen from India, set sail for home from the port of Chennai yesterday morning (20).

SLNS Shakthi arrived at the port of Chennai on 18 August.

Meanwhile, the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Shakti, a Fleet Tanker, left Visakhapatnam Port for Sri Lanka with medical grade oxygen on 19 August. The ships are scheduled to arrive in Colombo on 22 evening and 23 morning.

In addition another 140 tons of Liquid Medical Oxygen from Haldia and Chennai ports are also expected to reach Colombo during the coming week. Samudra Setu-II is an initiative of the Indian Navy to undertake urgent shipments of LMO containers and associated medical equipment to various countries. Seven Indian Naval Ships were deployed for such missions earlier. It may also be recalled that stranded citizens from India and Sri Lanka were repatriated into their respective countries via INS Jalashwa under Operation Samudra Setu last year.
