Three Sri Lankans for World Youth Chess Tourney

National chess champion Ranindu Liyanage, number three Susal de Silva and Oshini Gunawardena have received wildcard entries for the final stage of the World Youth Chess Championship.

Liyanage, playing against the best players in the world, managed to score seven points out of 10 games while Oshini also had a commendable performance of seven out of 10 games.

Liyanage beat Salima Praise (Malawi), Kachkachishvili Lasha (Georgia), Mordido Justine Diego (Philippines), Kanyamarala Tarun (Ireland), Ayush Sharma (India), Ahmadzada Ahmad (Azerbaijan), drew with Kushagra Mohan (India), Anuj Shrivatri (India) and lost to International Master Saksham Rautela (India) and Grandmaster Batsuren Dambasuren (Mongolia).

De Silva beat Ajili Rayen (Tunisia), Taulananda Anon (Thailand), Chidvilash Sai Surapaneni (India), Arjun Sidharth (India), Balaji Aaravamudhan (England), Popov Konstantin (Russia), Diego Rodri (Peru), drew with Dharmesh Sheth (India) and lost to Tsaruk Maksim (Belorussia) and Aaryan Varshney (India).

Meanwhile, Gunawardena beat Harrak Maryam (Morocco), Nihira Koul (India), Chinkulkitniwat Purichaya (Thailand), V. C. Nivedita (India), Yatee Kothari (India), Myagmar Tselmeg (Mongolia), drew with Aydogan Arya (Turkey), Paragua Megan Althea (US) and lost to Aadhya Jain (India) and Nguyen Mai Chi (Vietnam).

This year the event was conducted by the International Chess Federation and organised by the Georgian Chess Federation.
