More oxygen to be imported monthly

The Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella’s proposal to import 300,000 liters of medical oxygen weekly.

This is instead of importing 120,000 liters of oxygen monthly in order to enable adequate consignments in the country, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Plantation Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said.

He was speaking at this week’s Cabinet media briefing held yesterday the Government Information Department. Approval was given at the Cabinet meeting held on May 24, this year to import 120,000 liters of oxygen per month to ensure the supply of liquid medical oxygen to COVID-19 patients in critical condition.

This decision has been taken as the number of patients who are dependent on oxygen has increased due to the spread of the Delta variant of the COVID-19 Virus.
