M. A. R. M. Rezny - all-round sportsman of Central Province

M. A. R. M. Rezny is an all-round sportsman and a trained teacher in physical education attached to the Department of Education as an In-service Advisor.

He is an Old Boy of St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy and was involved in boxing, athletics and volleyball.

His boxing coach was former national boxing champion, Derrick Gunasinghe. Rezny started boxing at the L. V. Jayaweera Memorial Tournament and he won his weight class in 1984 and also represented at the Stubbs Shield and Junior ABA Boxing Meets.

He became a qualified boxing coach after following a one-year course conducted by the Sri Lanka Boxing Association.

As an athlete at the start, he won the 1,500m, high jump and triple jump for a number of years at school and District level meets.

He won many awards and excelled in the triple jump and went on to win at the Public Schools Athletic Meet in 1982.

He did volleyball at school and joined the Young Stars Sports Club as centre net player and his team emerged champions at the Kandy District Volleyball Tournament.

Before joining the Department of Education he worked as a teacher at Zahira College, Katugastota and Panwila MV, Matale.
