LRH safe for children with other ailments despite presence of COVID infected kids

593 COVID cases at National Hospital

There are around 200 COVID infected children at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital, its director Dr. G. Wijesuriya says.

“Four of them are in the ICU”, he said, adding that there was an increase in the number of children infected with the virus during the third wave. We allocated another ward to treat children with COVID from 26 August. So Ward No 8 is now allocated for COVID-19 children”.

There are six wards, where children with COVID, were treated, he said.

Dr. Wijesuriya said: “I want to reiterate that the hospital is safe. There is no danger in bringing in children with other diseases,” he said.

Meanwhile, 593 COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital and 266 are on oxygen support.

21 COVID-19 patients are also receiving treatment in the ICU and 57 patients are in the High Dependency Unit. (RK)
