Lockdown extended till 4am on September 06

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva yesterday announced the extension of the lockdown till 4.a.m on September 06.

He said that workers engaged in essential services did not need curfew passes. The essential services included the apparel, industrial and agricultural sectors.

The Head of the COVID-19 Prevention Task Force said pharmacies, too, would remain open during the quarantine curfew period.

The military and police had been instructed to be flexible at the checkpoints with regards to those in the essential services, he said.

General Silva said the vaccination program would continue nonstop and urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel and adhere to health instructions to prevent the further spread of Covid-19.
