Nigel Ratwatte who led the Kandy Sports Club last season and was to lead this season too, is a top rugger player, . He is a top class back division player, possessing the strength and skill to dominate play. He is also a superb ball handler and thinker while in action. His overall abilities, combined with his inspirational leadership and outstanding sportsmanship makes him a complete player.

He has represented Sri Lanka in both rugby 7s and15s. He is a player who can fit in as either full-back, fly Half or Centre. He began his rugby at Trinity College where he captained the school’sunder-13 team in 2004 and showed much promise in the game, and was adjudged Best Place kicker in his age group that year..

When he was 13 years old his family went off to Mauritius. Where he played the game for St. Nicholas’ Grammar school and for Black River Rugby Club. In the year 2007 he was selected to play for the national under 18 side during a tour to Madagascar and at 18 years was picked for the national XV of Mauritius and played in the African Confederation rugby tournament and in the Indian Ocean Rugby Sevens held in Madagascar, also in2007.

He was then the youngest and first Sri Lankan to play in an African national side in Sevens Rugby. He was the youngest player in the Mauritius National Team.

After coming back to Sri Lanka,he played for CR & FC in the years 2009 and 2010 from there he crossed over to Up-Country Lions in Nawalapitiya and after this club gave up he crossed over to Nittawela and played for Kandy SC.

In 2012 he made his international debut with the Sri Lanka national side, competing at the HSBC Asian sevens tournament. He was appointed captain of the Kandy SC for the year 2021, but there was no rugby.

He is one of the top players in the game, every time he gets the ball he knows he can do serious damage. to the opponents.

His running threat is immense and defenders can’t take their eyes off him for a second. He can chip, grubber and punt the ball to space, and his passing with both hands has ripped top-class defences apart.
