The Indian Air Force (IAF) currently needs 1.5 lakh new assault rifles. The new AK-103 rifles are expected to be delivered to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in the next few months. This will improve its ability to deal with terrorist attacks.

Government sources said a contract worth about Rs 300 crore was signed last week under emergency provisions for procuring 70,000 assault rifles from Russia. Weapons will first be provided to soldiers in sensitive air bases like Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar as well as in field areas. The remaining rifles will be supplied through the more advanced AK-203 rifle deal to be signed between India and Russia. The AK-203 assault rifles are being contracted under the Indian Army.

Indian Army accelerates pace of modernization

Indian security forces have accelerated the pace of modernization of the basic weapon system in the last few years, especially after China’s aggressive behavior in eastern Ladakh.

The Indian Army has already been provided with 1.5 lakh American Sig Saar rifles and 16,000 Negev light machine guns.

It is also worth mentioning here that the Marcos marine commandos of the Indian Navy are already using AK-103 rifles. They use this modern weapon against terrorists during their deployment in the Wular Lake of the Kashmir Valley.
