Home Covid-19 testing kits importation under discussion

A discussion was underway on importing kits that can be used by people to self-diagnose COVID-19, director of the Health Promotions Bureau, Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa said yesterday.

He told the media that such test kits were being used in some countries and the Health Minister and officials in charge of laboratories were looking into using those kits here, too.

Director of the Tertiary Care Services Dr. Avanthi Karunarathne said that 14,152 COVID-19 patients have been kept under home quarantine. By yesterday (27) 36,220 patients under home quarantine had fully recovered, she said.

Addressing the media in Colombo yesterday she said that 68% of the home quarantine cases were from Western province. Out of those we kept under home quarantine, only 435 needed hospitalization.

The Director said those who want to be treated at home need to register through hotline 1390.

“The hotline 1390 is open only for registered patients. If there are any unregistered Covid patients, they can use 247 and 1999 hotlines,” she said
