Former SL ruggerite Hamid passes away

Former Zahira College, Colombo, CR and FC, Police SC, and SLRFU President’s XV prop forward Ibrahim (Tanker) Hamid died at the age of 77 years due to COVID-19 yesterday.

He completed his academic career with Zahira and started playing rugby in the late 1950s and then joined CR and FC in 1964.

Later he joined Police SC and played until 1973. He also captained the Police rugby team in 1971.

He also played against several visiting foreign teams representing the SLRFU President’s XV team.

After his retirement, he served as President of the WPRFU and also coached Zahira and Police SC for several years.

He was honoured by the World Shooting Body and represented the country at several International events as a technical officer.
