Domestic’s mother hopes for fair investigation

Rajamanikkam Ranjani, the mother of the girl who died of burn injuries while working as a domestic at Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen’s home, said yesterday (13) at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital that neither the Police who are carrying out investigations into her daughter’s death nor any other person have tried to influence her or relatives up to now.

She made this comment when she arrived at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital to accept the body of her daughter subsequent to the second postmortem being done.

The remains of a 16-year-old domestic who died of severe burn injuries while employed at Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen’s house had been interred at the public cemetery in the western section of the Dayagama Estate and was exhumed on July 30 on a Court order.

The remains were then taken to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital under strong Police protection for a second postmortem.

Three consultant Judicial Medical Officers carried out the second postmortem and the report is due to be submitted to court.

The deceased girl’s mother, Rajamanikkam said that she is hoping for a fair investigation into the death of her daughter.The Court had ordered that subsequent to the second postmortem, the body is to be handed over to the parents under Police protection and buried in the western section of the public cemetery belonging to the Dayagama estate.
