Dilip Niroshan a talented cricketer

Fourth year player left hand top order wicket keeper batsman and an all rounder and first eleven player and athlete Kulukulusuriya Savalkarge Dilip Niroshan Femando has brought honour and immense glory for his alma mater St. Anthony’s College Wattala. Dilip who was born on 20th February 2003 was admitted to this prestigious school in 2009 to the grade one during the tenure of Rev.Fr.Mal Femando. He commenced Cricket with his class mates and neighboring friends and noticing his talents his parents Kumar Femando and Sujatha Femando admitted their son to the school^ Cricket Academy and no’sooner he came under Mr.Prasanna and Mr.Lahiru respectively.

He was selected to the under 13 team and passed the 300 run mark with three half centuries and claimed 15 victims behind the stumps and in the following year he scored 540 runs with three fifties and took 15 victims behind the stumps.

With these performances under his belt he was a unanimous choice for the under 15 team and in his first year he surpassed the 500 mark with a century and four fifties and had 22 victims and in the following year he got 460 runs with three fifties and had 14 victims. However he was not considered for the Prima Cup. Playing in the under 15 Gampaha tournament playing in eight matches he had a healthy average of 42.0.

He played for the Nondescripts Cricket Academy in the under 15 age group in the Mercantile Tournament under Ashen de Silva and in five matches his average was thirty plus and at the same time he toured with them to Annthapur India and playing in nine matches they won eight matches at an average of 45.0 plus and he carried away the Best Batsman, Best Fielder and the Man of the Series awards and his coach was Mr. Udara. That tour was a very fine exposure for Dilip.

After returning from India he was selected for the first eleven team as the Baby of the Side when he was still under 15 and he was the reserve wicket keeper too.

In the under 17 tournament he passed the 400 run mark with a century and two fifties and had 20 victims behind the wickets and in the following year playing for the first eleven team he had an average of 30 plus and claimed ten victims and in 2019/20 he got two fifties and took 16 victims in 15 outings and in the 2021 limited over tournament he scored two fifties and in the pre quarters they lost to Ananda College Colombo.
