Anderson help England stamp their authority

James Anderson’s triple strikes with the new ball had India reeling at 56 for four at lunch on the opening day of the third Test against England at Headingley yesterday.

In a scintillating display of swing bowling, after an unchanged India had opted to bat, Anderson had three of India’s top-four making the same mistake of poking unnecessarily at away-going deliveries to send an edge through to Jos Buttler.

Rohit and Rahane spent the better part of the next hour avoiding any risks.

The pair took India past the 50-run mark just as the lunch approached.

However, Robinson landed a telling blow as he had Rahane too poking at a length ball outside off-stump to send a faint edge through to Buttler for his fourth catch of the innings already.

Chief scores

India: 56/4 at lunch (James Anderson 3/6) vs England.
