Over 57,000 families in Jaffna were eligible for the Rs. 2,000 dole given to those adversely affected by the lockdown to control COVID-19, Jaffna District Secretary, Kanapathipillai Mahesan said yesterday.

He said that the government had allocated funds and the money would be distributed through local level officers.

Mahesan also said that 239 COVID-19 cases were detected in Jaffna on Wednesday (25), which was the highest number of infections reported from the district since March 2020. Steps had been taken to expand the anti COVID-19 programmes in the district, following the recent rapid increase in the pandemic.
