TNA meets US Envoy

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alaina B Teplitz had a lengthy and fruitful discussion on the Sri Lankan Government’s commitment to the international community to resolve the Tamil issue and the resolutions discussed at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), TNA Leader R.Sampanthan said on yesterday (16).

Sampanthan was commenting to the media on the discussion held at his official residence in Colombo between him and the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Teplitz along with a group of American delegates.

Sampanthan further said that he had explained to the US Ambassador how the issue was moving forward day by day without any solution, as the measures taken by every Government in this country to resolve the problems of the Tamil people in the North and East had not been followed honestly and effectively.

Sampanthan has pointed out to the US Ambassador that the time has come for a lasting solution to the Tamil community’s issue in the country and that the full intervention of the United States and the international community is needed to find a clear solution.

Sampanthan emphasised that the provincial council system alone was not enough to resolve the issue in the North and the East and that it was important for the two provinces of the North and the East to be considered as a single political entity and to be governed by the Tamil people.

The TNA leader was accompanied by MP M.A. Sumanthiran, Selvam Adaikalanathan and former MP Mavai Senathirajah.
