Stalin, 15 other TU activists released

Sixteen Trade Union activists including Ceylon Teachers Union Secretary Joseph Stalin who were placed under quarantine at a Quarantine Centre in Mullaitivu have been released.

They were to be taken to Colombo in buses yesterday night. A group of protestors including Stalin were arrested while engaging in a protest against the proposed Kotelawala Defence Academy Bill on July 8 for allegedly violating Quarantine Laws.

These trade union activists were placed under quarantine at a centre in Mullaitivu, after the Court released them on bail.

Meanwhile, six members of the Frontline Socialist Party including Duminda Nagamuwa who were placed under quarantine at a centre in Pallekele were released yesterday evening.

Nagamuwa and five others were arrested on July 7 while they were involved in a protest at Slave Island. They were released on bail upon being produced before Court. Later, they were quarantined at a centre in Pallekele.
