Senior journalist Krishna Wijebandara passes away

Senior journalist and environmental writer Krishna Wijebandara (57) passed away on Saturday (17).

He started his journalistic career as the Kiriella correspondent for Lake House and subsequently served Lankadeepa, Lakbima, Irudina and the Aruna newspapers.

As the Provincial Editor of Lakbima he rendered a remarkable contribution to the media. He was an outstanding media teacher for many journalists in the country. Krishna was a versatile author of a number of publications. He was reputed as a prolific writer on diverse themes including environment, organic agriculture, traditional Sri Lankan paddy farming and gemology.

He was a fearless writer on many contemporary environmental, social and political issues. He maintained his own blog Walaspathy carrying analytical and productive essays mainly on traditional paddy farming, organic Agriculture and the rich heritage of the country.

Remains are lying at his residence at Magamulana,Meda-keembiya, Galle. Cremation will take place at Baddegama crematorium at 6.00pm today.
