Saudi Arabia agrees to programme to revive tourism industry with SL

Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia have agreed to implement a joint programme to revive the pandemic-hit tourism industry in Sri Lanka.

During the Zoom discussion held between Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga and the Saudi Arabian Tourism Minister Ahmed Al-Khateeb on developing the tourism industry, the two Ministers agreed to work together to develop the tourism Industry in Sri Lanka which has been adversely affected by COVID-19.

Minister Ranatunga told the Saudi Arabian Tourism Minister about the programmes implemented by the government to revive the tourism industry in Sri Lanka which was badly hit by both the pandemic and the Easter Sunday attack.

He said that government has already commenced the vaccination of frontline workers attached to the tourism industry to make Sri Lanka a safe travel destination.

The vaccination process in the entire industry is expected to be completed by next month.

The Saudi Arabian Tourism Minister said he believes that the global tourism industry will gradually be back to normal in 2022. He also said that steps will be taken to direct more Saudi Arabian tourists to Sri Lanka in the future.
