No terrorism threat in Sri Lanka - Defence Secretary

Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) stated that based on the assessments of the intelligence sources, no reports on terrorist activities or such related threats were reported. He was responding to an updated travel advisory on Sri Lanka issued by the US. A statement issued by the Defence Secretary stated, the Level-4 U.S. Travel Ban imposed on Sri Lanka on May 24, 2021 has been lifted to a Level-3 U.S. Travel Advisory on July 6, 2021.

The U.S. Travel Advisory on Sri Lanka is a periodical revision published by the U.S. State Department under Level-3 category.

Although the U.S. Travel Advisory regarding Sri Lanka has been issued due to COVID-19 situation, the threat on Terrorism is also included in the advisory.

Furthermore, the U.S. Embassy in Colombo stated in a twitter message Wednesday (7) that the updating of Travel Advisory for Sri Lanka from Level-4 to Level-3 was solely due to prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country and there is no change to the terrorist threat level.
