‘Govt oblivious to fertilizer issue’

Former Agriculture State Minister Wasantha Aluwihare stated that the Government is deaf when it comes to issues of the public, and the fertilizer issue, which is the most crucial issue in the country.

He said that the Agriculture Minister and the whole team had not identified the burning issues of the public.

Former State Minister Aluwihare stated this while participating in a protest in the Dambulla electorate area yesterday.

The protesters highlighted that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has failed to identify and address farmers’ issues. The 6.9 million people who supported the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna had also taken to the streets demanding fertilizer and relief, Aluwihare said.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s Dambulla electorate organizer U.R Daya Nandasiri predicted a severe decline in the local agriculture industry. However, he added that there is no objection to organic fertilizer and that he proposes to the President and the Government to provide organic fertilizers systematically.

He said that local big onion cultivation in Dambulla, Galewela and other areas has recently commenced and requested the Government to provide relief to local big onion farmers who are in dire straits due to lack of fertilizer.
