Gas at prescribed prices only: CAA to keep watch

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has launched a countrywide operation to nab traders who sell gas in excess of the prescribed maximum retail price.

Following complaints received regarding domestic gas cylinders containing 18 liters of LP Gas sold at Rs.1,395 in the market, it was decided at the last Cabinet meeting that the maximum price of that gas cylinder should be Rs.1,150. Following this decision taken by the Cabinet, it was decided to issue a gazette notification regarding the new price.Accordingly, when determining the weight of a domestic gas cylinder,it should be stated in kilograms and not in liters. Accordingly, it was decided that the maximum retail price of a 9.5 kg cylinder should be 1,150 rupees.
