Foundation stone laid for Sandahiru Seya Museum

Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) laid the foundation stone for the proposed Sandahiru Stupa Museum at the Anuradhapura amidst the blessing of Ven. Maha Sanga today (July 10).

Gen Gunaratne also instructed the respective officials involved in the museum construction to offer an identical concept to the museum’s architecture reflecting history, tribute, pride, absolute glamour and glory while imaging the artistic beauty of the Stupa.

The foundation stone laying event was held during the Defence Secretary’s inspection visit made to the Sandahiru Stupa, which is nearing its completion in a rapid phase.

Gen. Gunaratne was briefed on the current status of the on-going process at the site by the officials entrusted with the respective structural work.
Erection of frontispiece (vahalkada), shrine room (budu madura), rings of deity (dewatha kotuwa), proposed inscriptions, engravings and sculpture artwork, construction of proposed museum including its interior arrangements were also discussed during the session.

The brief event was held while adhering to the healthcare procedures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Ven. Maha Sanga, Security Force Wanni Commander Maj. Gen. Hemantha Bandara, 21 Division Commander Maj. Gen. Mohan Rathnayake, Military Liaison Officer of the Defence Ministry Brig. Dinesh Nanayakkara, senior military officers, project officers, engineers, architects and artists were also present at the occasion.
